For decades, the Lawrence Branch NAACP has been on the ground turning advocacy into real-world action. We keep our community informed and empowered by hosting vital political candidate forums to ensure voters are educated on the issues that affect Douglas County. We work to honor our local history—partnering with the Equal Justice Initiative to memorialize the victims of the 1882 river bridge lynching, and preserving Black history by placing granite grave markers for over 30 African Americans in Oak Hill Cemetery’s Potter’s Field.

We continue that legacy by fighting for educational equity, driving voter registration, and honoring local history. But this vital work relies entirely on the strength and dedication of our members.
