Education Committee

Mission Statement

Every child will receive a free, high quality, equitably-funded, public pre-k and k-12 education followed by diverse opportunities for accessible, affordable vocational or university education and employment.

Current Action Steps:

 • Collaborate on school district curriculum development

 • Provide local scholarships to graduating seniors of our two public high schools

 • Monitor restorative practice within the school district

 • Promote training opportunities at the Dwayne Peaslee Technical Training Center

The Lawrence Branch NAACP has awarded scholarships to six African American students during the past three years.  Through our fundraising efforts we can now give $1000 scholarships to one graduating senior at each of our two public high schools.  We also encourage our applicants to apply for scholarships from the national NAACP organization and offer assistance to them with the application process.

Our volunteers work with the district curriculum committees to assess how local educational options affect all students.  We contact local businesses to raise awareness of our scholarship for African American graduating seniors and invite them to become donors.  We visit Peaslee Tech to learn about technical training opportunities for all students.  We published a brochure to distribute throughout the community to explain our scholarship opportunities.

Please join us in our efforts to help students in their educational pursuits.
